The Handsfree-Transporter is an innovative camera-transport system invented by Ulrich Kahlert, and developed by Reinhard Ansorge. Based on the Segway Personal Transporter designed by Dean Kamen, the Handsfree does away with conventional handlebars, leaving the rider free to operate Steadicam. This unique combination allows the operator to react to dynamic situations with unequalled precision. Reinhard's latest 'leaning' model, with knee steering, is intuitive to ride, and entirely fluid in its movement. The addition of the Universal Hardmount eliminates carrying strain, permitting up to 50 kg (100 lbs) of camera equipment to be flown for extended periods. Stability at all speeds is excellent: from a slow, interior tracking shot, to a fast, outdoor chase sequence, the Handsfree offers quick set-ups, and delivers stunning results.
The Handsfree-Transporter is available in three tyre configurations: small high-pressure tyres, suitable for indoor work and cramped locations; off-road tyres, for tackling rough surfaces; and broad, low-pressure turf tyres suitable for golf courses. For the test shot below, the Handsfree is in off-road configuration.
